“THE CITY OF EMBER”

My favorite book of all time is “The Land of Far Beyond” by Enid Blyton.It is a chrisitian allegory of people’s sins turning into huge rocks on their backs.They then had to travel to a faraway land in search of a place where the prince would be the only person capable of taking off their burdens fron their backs.
I am not a chrisitian neither an advoicate of any religion,but the way the story was beautifully written captured my imagination as a child .I became immersed and completely absorbed into the book.I developed this strong attachment to this book and it served as a source of escape into my secret fantastical land full of wonder and power.
I felt what the characters felt and saw what they saw.Never did i think any book would come even close to the sentiments i felt with “The Land of Far Beyond”,especially since i am an adult and my childhood mind had been overtaken by more complex and realistic thoughts.
But the “City of Ember” did just that,it engulfed me in a way no book has ever been able to do in a while.It is a story about an underground city called Ember that is running out of supplies,they have forgotten the fact that there are cities up above and their ancestors were sent underground to ensure survival of the human race during a catastrophe.
It is really a sci-fi book for those who do not like science fiction.Excellently written,it is now in the top of my all time favorite list of books.

BOONDOCKS

Its interesting what discoveries we make when we take the time to self reflect,when we hold ourselves or something we like to the same standards as we hold other people and things.
I’m not about to do a philosophical digest,this is simply about a T.V. show.In this case my favorite T.V. show;BOONDOCKS.
Boondocks is a social satire which parodies off of events in America.It is so funny that even the prudest of people will fall in love with it despite the crude language and some adult scenarios.Despite all that,it still seemes nothing more than a hilariously packaged harmless joke.
That was what i thought till i took a good look at the subliminal messages conveyed either intentionally or otherwise by the show.
I was like hmmm,why are the thoughtful, educated characters lighte-skinned.The real “ghetto” men and women are dark skin and the women very fat.
In the episode “Lovely Ebony Brown” and other shows which involved an attractive black female,she was always lightskinned.
Disclaimer:I do not have a problem with lightskinned people,neither do i think any skin color is more attractive than the other,but knowing very well the social history of this country and the complexes it has left many black people with,things like these are worth noting.
Such a trend in popular black shows like Boondocks even if its inadvertent,does not show a positive message to all Black people and might as well come from a KKK produced show.
It’s about time,Black people as a whole put an end to self-inflicted racism and stereotype.

GLENN BECK…WTF!!!

Glenn Beck planned a big organized rally on the anniversary of Dr. King’s 1963 March in Washington, and in the same spot where he delivered his world-famous “I Have a Dream” speech. It was on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at the height of the civil rights movement that King spoke and Glenn Beck plans to emulate the late great civil rights leader by fulfilling his very own “dream”.

He called it his “Restoring Honor Rally.” It’s no surprise that it fell on the exact date and will be held at the exact location of Martin Luther King’s 1963 event. The ‘Special Operations Warrior Foundation‘, a military veterans charity endorsed, promoted, and fully funded the rally via ‘tax exempt’ donations.
It takes ony a nuthead like him to even think of such a disrespectful action.Beck considers himself a world historical figure, but I see him as a hysterical figure who has found himself(a pure nut-job) the excuse to cause mayhem and destruction and call it “God’s will” being done.
Glenn Beck is a sick joke and freaking ridiculous.I tried listening to his show one time and got pissed not only at him but at myself for subjecting myself to such crap.
His sense of logic is pitifully twisted and he lives in a bubble which for the love of God,somebody needs to pop!!!.

MAKE DIVORCE ILLEGAL-SAVE MARRIAGE…

There has been so much tug of war and bickering over this particular issue that today’s victory comes like a phyrric victory.I am talking about today’s ruling by Justice Vaughn Walker in the Perry v. Schwarzenegger case regarding California’s Proposition 8.
So finally!!!…same-sex couples can get married once again in California….Now why do i not feel the least bit excited?..Because those no good,religious hypocrites with money to spare from Utah(yeah,you know who i mean),are just as quickly going to fight it and cause even greater unrest for gay people.
A friend of mine once told me that instead of these conservative fundamentalists fighting against gay marriage,why don’t they fight to make divorce illegal.Now that will be really protecting the sanctity of marriage wouldn’t it?.
Whiles people are free to have their opinions,actively striving to ensure the loss of a group of people’s basic human rights is pure treachery and outright hypocrisy.
I hope even after all the probable appeals,right to marry for gay people will still be preserved.
It’s been such a long struggle from the beginning of time,culminating in the stonewall riots.It’s about time the hypocrisy and insensitivity surrounding gay marriage end…Period!!!!!

SNOOKIE

NO this one is not going to be about the girl from jersey shore,that i haven’t even watched before.It’s about “snookering” or a case of the alleged.NAACP and the White House claims they were “snookered” by Fox and Breitbart. This leads me to ask two questions.First,shouldn’t news from a political opponent’s outlet be held to much more scrutiny?..Secondly,seriously do they take fox news that serious???.
A story promoting growth and awareness was taken completely out of context and as a result, Fox News, the NAACP and state and government officials (i.e. The White House) made repeated calls for her resignation until they were heard the real version. They (NAACP, Obama administration, Fox News, BreitBart & Co.) should all be ashamed of themselves, but I know they’re not.
This like I said in my previous post,is the reality of racial hypocrisy
Just imagine Senator Byrd being forced to resign from the US Senate as a direct result of his earlier Klan membership and Klan recruitment.Rather, He went on to become the third longest-serving member of the US Senate. What about Strom Thurmond, the longest-serving former US Senator, who despite later support of some civil rights initiatives, he never officially or unofficially renounced his previous racist-segregationist views, some of which were taken to the grave.

The list goes on in politics… Trent Lott’s, Harry Reid’s and Joe Biden’s racially insensitive remarks ring a racist bell for anyone else besides me?

Ms. Sherrod was able to overcome her prejudice, but for them I don’t think so.And why are we so intolerant of racism from a Black person when we are so lenient on white people to discard their racist ways.Like they were doing us a favor…God America!!!!…what is wrong with you??.

INCEPTION!!

Never have I watched a movies so deep and insightful,so thoughtful and mind provoking that it would leave you feeling like you just achieved the highest level of enlightenment possible.
This movie starring Leonardo Di Carpio as a man who along with his associates,are able to dream and sort through their memories,but most importantly go into other’s dreams and extract information.
Few minutes into the movie,i was like..Now this is a good movie,only to be hit with the added plot that instead of extracting information from a person’s mind,they now have to plant an idea which would require going into the third level of a person’s subconscious just to do that.
All I could say after that was DAMN!!!..and throughout the movie,i was thrusted into this world of excellent special effects and storyline.
Inception is definitely one of my best movies of all time if not one of the best.I wish this didnt have to sound so much like a movie review,but if I was to rate it,I would give inception an AAA+++….yeah that good!!!!!!.

“BRAIN-DRAIN”

I never was exposed to the horrors of alzheimers disease till i moved over to the U.S. and started working in an assisted living facility.To have a loved not know who you are and talk about you in the third person,is very heartbreaking and for most,unbearable.
I was sad to see families leave in tears after visiting their loved ones who have no inkling to their presence.For someone who believes the ultimate form of existence is to utilise the mental faculties,i am especially saddened by this disease.
Having no cure and no apparent cause,Alzheimer’s is like the bogey man appearing at the dawn of life to snatch people’s mind’s and memories.
Everytime you go to see a loved one who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease,it’s like going to their funeral over and over again.And how can a person sustain that blow repeatedly.
I always knew i wanted to do medical research,but at the moment, it is my number one wish to be able to join the group of exceptional men and women,working tirelessly to make some sense out of this problem.
